Wrong-way drivers on Jeffreys Grove School Road

 

  • There is a persistent problem of
    WRONG‐WAY drivers on Jeffreys Grove School Road near Jeffreys Grove Magnet Elementary School during carpool

  • In the past month (through Oct 4th 2021) three JGMES parents were able to photograph 9 WRONG‐WAY drivers. Anecdotally, this is a daily issue

  • You can help. Please take photos (when stopped and safe to do so) or share dashcam footage any time you see a WRONG‐WAY driver (or another safety issue) to help us document the scale of the problem to communicate with the Raleigh Police Department and others

  • This information gathering effort is currently coordinated by concerned JGMES parents

  • We are engaged with (but do not represent) the JGMES PTA, school or district leadership, the city councilor for District E and the City of Raleigh

  • Our information gathering is initially targeted at a discussion with the Raleigh Police Department about increased enforcement of existing traffic laws

  • Other related discussions, such as the City of Raleigh sidewalk petition process may progress

    We had great engagement from Raleigh Police Department officers who were present outside Jeffreys Grove Elementary School today for National Walk to School Day.

    We handed out copies of our 1-page summary (the second slide in our deck linked above) and showed a print out of all the photos we've taken.

    The senior officer present plans to contact the Traffic division with the hope of seeing some RPD motorbike units helping remind people to drive safely.

Do you wish there were sidewalks all the way along Jeffreys Grove School Rd? Perhaps you walk your kids to the elementary school or maybe you would like to walk a loop around the neighborhood with your dog or perhaps you wish your front lawn wasn't trampled in to mud by everyone walking by. Sidewalks - Part 2 - what we've learned so far

  I've had this draft post open for more than a week after writing Part 1 trying to summarize what we've learned so far and potential next steps only for things to keep changing with further communication with the City. Here then are some key things we have learned after a few months of research and communication with the City. There is a lot of additional context and links to sources that could be added but I think the potential next steps have become clearer so I want to get this post out and move on to Part 3 covering next steps.
